Cape Sounion and Wine Tasting

The Attica Peninsula is blessed with picture-perfect landscapes, mountainous territory and a sharply indented coastline fringed with beautiful beaches. Cape Sounion, at the southernmost tip of the European land mass, is bordered by the sea and crowned by the Temple of Poseidon. This magnificent 5th century BC temple offers the quintessential view of Classical Greece along with breathtaking scenery.

Your drive to this destination will take you along the Apollo Coast. At Cape Sounion, you’ll park at the bottom of Temple Hill, then pass through the gate and climb a rocky path, roughly following the ancient approach into the sanctuary of the sea god. The temple is believed to have been built in the middle of the 5th century BC. The remaining 17 columns of Pentellic marble retain much of their original gleaming white appearance. Lord Byron, who visited the temple in 1810, was moved to carve his name on a pillar, and commemorated the site in his poem “Don Juan.” After your visit, you will continue to inland to the "Mesogia area" to visit the Anagnostou Winery in Koropi in the heart of Attica peninsula. The winery is the continuation of a 3 generation family tradition in wine making, nowadays continued with modern technology. You will tour the winery and will be invited on a wine tasting with 3 different wines and enjoy snacks. Return to the port.
