The Spirit of Athens

Your brief city drive will take you from Piraeus into Athens covering the main points of interest both ancient and modern as your guide provides interesting commentary. On arrival at Athens your tour will begin with a city orientation passing by Athens’s major tourist attractions such as the Temple of Olympian Zeus, Hadrian's Arch, the Statue of Lord Byron, the National Gardens, Constitution Square, the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, the Panathinakon Stadium (Old Olympic Stadium) where the first Olympics of modern times were held in 1896, the Academy and the University Library.

You’ll then enter the old part of the city called the Plaka and explore its predominately pedestrian streets with the picturesque houses, shops and numerous cafes.

After your free time in Plaka you’ll re-convene at a traditional Greek restaurant for the highlight of your tour. An exceptionally delicious assortment of Greek cuisine will be offered for your enjoyment, including traditionally Greek food such as Mousaka, Tzatziki and the “spirits” of ouzo and Metaxa brandy. The entire meal, served in a typically Greek setting under the sounds of live Greek Bouzouki players, is sure to fill everyone with the true “Spirit of Athens”

Tour suitable for elderly, assisted and physically challenged persons

Guests wishing to stay longer at Plaka may do so but will have to make their own way back to the port
