The Acropolis & its New Museum

Board your motorcoach for a 30 minutes scenic drive into the heart of Athens. Ahead, the Acropolis dominates the landscape. Your guided walking tour begins as you climb the 80 steep steps through the Propylaea, the monumental marble gateway to the Acropolis. Once at the top, you'll be rewarded with spectacular views of Athens below. Beyond the Propylaea, on the highest point of the Acropolis, stands the Parthenon, one of the greatest monuments of ancient civilization and a perfect representation of Doric-style architecture. Dedicated to the virgin goddess Athena, the white Pentelic marble temple was built 446 - 437 B.C. An enduring symbol of ancient Greece, the Parthenon has survived the passage of time, and its architectural sophistication still impresses all who study it.

Next to the Parthenon is the smaller Temple of Erechthion with lovely sculptured young maidens supporting the roof of the porch. From the top of the Acropolis you will also be able to admire the ancient theatre of Herodus Atticus with its remarkable acoustics. Your next stop will be at the New Acropolis Museum. Considered one of the great museums of the world, the New Acropolis Museum, an ultra-modern showcase located at the foot of the Acropolis, displays a dramatic collection of artifacts and statues from the Pantheon, the Porch of the Caryatids, and surrounding sites. Having visited those remarkable sites you’ll re-board your coach for the return journey to Piraeus port.
