Baalbek & Anjar
Drive across Mt Lebanon into the Bekaa valley rich in vegetation towards Baalbek, the city of the sun, known during the Hellenistic period as Heliopolis.
Visit the best preserved Roman site exhibiting the power and wealth of Rome in its architecture. Majestic and imposing ruins of the temples of Jupiter, Bacchus and Venus constructed between the 1st and 3rd centuries AD are the largest ever built.
Only six of the fifty four giant columns originally surrounding the Jupiter Complex survive today.
Baalbek is brought into the limelight once again when international artists perform during the festival of arts every year. World famous orchestras, musicians and singers taking part in the event.
Take time out to relax at a traditional Lebanese restaurant in Zahle and enjoy the wide variety of about fifteen dishes alongside the main dish of barbecues.
After lunch continue to Anjar, the Omayyad city, featuring three palaces, souks, hammams and a mosque.
Anjar benefitted a lot from its abundant water resources and its strategic position as a commercial exchange center.
