Arabian Fjords by Dhow
Officially called the Sultanate of Oman it is the oldest independent state in the Arab world, and one of the more traditional countries in the Gulf region.
Occupying the south-east corner of the Arabian peninsula, it has a strategically important position at the mouth of the Gulf.
Oman's tourism attractions include a largely-untouched coastline, mountains, deserts and the burgeoning capital Muscat, with its forts, palaces and old walled city.
Khasab on the Musandam Peninsula
It’s a city on the Musandam Peninsula belonging to Oman, 500 kms from Muscat, separated from Oman by the UAE.
Dubbed the "Norway of Arabia" because of the fjords and inlets of the region. Built by the Portuguese at the beginning of the 17th century Khasab was designed as a supply point for dates and water for their ships sailing through the strait.
Access to the area by land was virtually impossible until a modern coast road was built allowing fast access from the UAE making Khasab a popular weekend destination for people living in the Emirates.
