Leisurely Leptis Magna
A country in the Maghreb region of North Africa is the fourth largest country in Africa and 17th in the world. Libya is the home of several impressive archaeological and cultural sites that are truly unique and unparalleled in the whole world. The hardly known valleys of the Libyan Sahara are the home of an array of dazzling, sophisticated, artistic and stylish prehistoric civilisations the world has never seen before. Five of these sites have been added to the World Heritage List namely, Tadrart Acacus (Akakous), Cyrene, Leptis Magna, Sabratha, and the ancient Berber oasis of Ghadames.
Al Khums
A town of approximately 230,000 inhabitants, Al Khums lies in northwestern Libya on the Mediterranean Sea. Founded by the Ottomans but gained importance after 1870 by exporting esparto grass, which was used for cordage, shoes and paper.
Modern economic activities in Al Khums include tuna processing, soap manufacture, dates and olive oil. The town is also a tourist base and gateway to the magnificent site of ancient Leptis Magna.
