Salalah Introduction

Called the Garden City, Salalah is nestled among coconut, papaya and banana plantations and orchards unique in the entire Gulf region.

A tropical paradise with broad avenues bathed in lush vegetation and traditional and modern lifestyles exuding serene ambience.

Native Dhofari houses with picture frame caravan windows and doors can be found among the plantations on either side of the road to town.

Take a stroll in the lanes of the traditional Frankincense Souk and browse at the colorful and exotic merchandise.

Omani crafts, incense burners, curios, perfumes, gold and silver are on display.

A roadside stop near the magnificent Al Hosn Palace, private residence of His Majesty the Sultan of Oman will take place before you visit Al Balid Museum. Its well laid out display gives the visitor comprehensive information on the traditional and historical heritage of the region.

Adjacent to the museum, the Al Balid ruins, described by Marco Polo as the beautiful and noble city are down to their bare foundations.

Archaeological diggings have revealed remains of a great rectangular shaped mosque surrounded by balconies from all sides.
