Walking Tour of Athens

Board your motorcoach for a 30-minute scenic drive into the heart of Athens. Along the way, your narrated drive will pass a host of major sites including Hadrian's Arch, the Temple of Olympian Zeus, the National Gardens, the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, guarded by the ‘evzones’ dressed in their traditional costume, the Parliament, the Presidential Palace and the Panathinaikon Stadium (Old Olympic Stadium) where the first Olympics of modern times were held in 1896.

You'll then proceed to the Monastiraki area, a flea market neighborhood in the old town of Athens, and one of the principal shopping districts in Athens. The area is home to clothing boutiques, souvenir shops, and specialty stores, and is a major tourist attraction for bargain shopping. The area is named after Monastiraki Square, which in turn is named for the Pantánassa church monastery that is located within the square. The main streets of this area are Pandrossou Street and Adrianou Street.

Your tour continues with a visit to the New Acropolis Museum, an archaeological museum focused on the findings of the archaeological site of the Acropolis of Athens. The museum was built to house every artifact found on the rock and on its feet, from the Greek Bronze Age to Roman and Byzantine Greece. It also lies on the archaeological site of Makrygianni and the ruins of a part of Roman and early Byzantine Athens. You’ll then enter to the picturesque Plaka district an old historical neighbourhood of Athens, clustered around the northern and eastern slopes of the Acropolis, and incorporating labyrinthine streets and neoclassical architecture.

The cobbled pedestrian lanes are lined with shops, boutiques, jewelry stores, souvenir stands, tavernas, cafés, and flea market stalls. At the completion of your tour you will return to the pier.
